Your group has decided that for their next corporate event they’d like to host a charity team building activity. Nobody on the team has any idea where to start planning. Maybe they have a non-profit in mind but who will actually handle the details? Book a venue? What do you donate to the charity? How do you get the donation to the non-profit? How do you make it fun? We love planning team building charity events because they are focused on the community and facilitate a connection with your team. Team charity events are an ideal type of event to combine with a CSR initiative, community outreach, or donation. Here are some key points to consider:

Choosing A Non-Profit for your team building event:

Selecting the right non-profit organization is a crucial first step in planning a charity team building event for your corporate group. Start by researching and identifying non-profits that align with your company’s values and mission. Consider causes that resonate with your team members and reflect your corporate culture. Once you have a shortlist of potential non-profits, reach out to them to gauge their interest and availability for your event. It’s essential to establish a partnership that benefits both parties, ensuring that your efforts will have a meaningful impact on the chosen cause.

This is no small task, we get it. We work with hundreds of non-profits every year on behalf of our clients for their team building events. Our non-profit coordinator is magical when it comes to finding the right fit for our partners. You don’t have to do this alone.

What Do We Donate For Our Charity Team Building Activity?

Determining what to donate during your charity team building event depends on the non-profit’s needs and the nature of your event. Collaborate with the chosen non-profit to understand their current requirements. It could be monetary donations, specific items, or even volunteer hours. Consider involving your team in this decision-making process by soliciting their input. This not only enhances team engagement but also ensures that your donations are both meaningful and relevant to the cause. It’s essential to create a clear donation plan, including how and when you’ll provide the contributions to the non-profit.

The key with working with non-profits for a team building event is to avoid making assumptions about their needs. We’ve also found that a common pitfall is assuming that every charity can handle the size of the donation your team is planning. Large group team building activities focused on CSR can do a lot of good, but it needs to match the ability of a charity to process it.

Team Building Charity Event Logistics:

Start by setting a clear timeline for the event, including all the planning stages, so everyone involved knows their responsibilities and deadlines. Secure a suitable venue that can accommodate your group size and the chosen activities. Coordinate with the non-profit to ensure they are prepared to receive your donations and provide any necessary resources or guidance. Additionally, consider logistics such as transportation, catering, and event materials to ensure a seamless and stress-free experience for your team.

FAQ – Charity Team Building Activity

Planning a team building event for charity comes with challenges that other team building options don’t. Between choosing the non-profit to sourcing and delivering the donation it’s a special type of event.

  • Does FireFly Team Events have non-profits already chosen or can we choose our own? We have a lot of non-profits we partner with but depending on your vision we are happy to build relationships with the charity of your choice for your team building.
  • Can host the team building activity at the non-profit’s location? Short answer, maybe but not likely for a few reasons. Non-profits often don’t have the space to accommodate a large number of volunteers for a team building activity. Also, the populations they work with can be vulnerable and a large influx of well meaning strangers can be overwhelming or derailing. We try whenever possible to bring a non-profit representative to your event.
  • Will a representative from the charity be at our event? This is a priority for us. We want your corporate team building group to hear the stories from someone that does the work. This is always best from the non-profit. There are reasons we might not be able to get a representative that can include timing, size of donation, and location.
  • Can we choose what we donate? If you don’t have a specific non-profit charity in mind we can match the donation you choose to an organization. If you do have a specific non-profit we will facilitate a conversation to help determine what their needs are.
